Based on a recent EY 2022 Work Reimagined Survey, more than half of employees based in Singapore are likely to leave their jobs in the next 12 months.

Singaporean Workers Not Taking Sick Leave despite Mental and Physical Illness

The latest study from Milieu Insight revealed that 77% of Singaporean employees have not chosen to take a sick leave despite feeling physically unwell, while 67% said they didn't take a sick leave despite not feeling good mentally.

This reflected the prevailing culture of presenteeism and high job demands that causes the employees to refuse to take sick leave despite not being physically or mentally unwell.

MOM: Singapore’s Employment Standards Improve

Based on the recent Employment Standards Report 2021, Singapore's state of employment standards improved as the overall number of employment claims and appeals filed to MOM and the Tripartite Alliance for Dispute Management (TADM) fell significantly.

According to MOM, the drop was driven by the decline in salary claims among local and foreign employees, who made up most of the employment claims. In addition, 95% of employees have fully recovered their owed salaries in 2021

Pandemic-Era Notification to MOM about Wage Cuts to Cease from Aug 1

Starting from August 1, employers with 10 or more workers will no longer have to inform the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) of wage cuts taken in the name of cost-saving.

MOM also stated that the advisory on retrenchment benefits owed to laid-off employees will also cease to take effect. Employers carrying out layoffs must still notify MOM within five days after informing affected staff, if the firm hires at least 10 workers.
