Gig Workers in Singapore to Get Better Job Protections Starting in 2024

MOM accepted recommendations, from the Tripartite Workgroup on Representation for Platform Workers, that will pave the way to increase protection and representation for gig employees under a new legislative framework, which will be implemented from the second half of 2024.

Gig employees in Singapore, such as deliverymen, cabbies and ride-hailing drivers can soon negotiate for better working conditions as a group, through representative bodies that are legally empowered and act almost like trade unions.

MOM Identifies Common Reasons for Late CPF Payments

In a recent report from MOM, an average of about 2,800 employers per month failed to make the correct amount of Central Provident Fund (CPF) contributions promptly in the last three years.

It is also said that the common reasons for late CPF payments include administrative lapses such as missed deadlines, insufficient funds for bank deduction and cash flow issues.

Some employers may also have an incorrect understanding of their obligations under the CPF scheme.
