An employee can claim overtime if the following conditions are met:

    • A non-workman earning up to $2,600.

  • How and When Overtime Pay Must Be Paid?

For overtime work, an employer must pay an employee at least 1.5 times the hourly basic rate of pay. Payment must be made within 14 days after the last day of the salary period.

  • What Is the Formula for Calculating OT Pay in Singapore?

The overtime calculation formula in Singapore is as follows:

    • Hourly basic rate of pay × 1.5 × number of hours worked overtime

The hourly basic rate of pay is calculated as follows:

For this category of employee Hourly basic rate of pay is
    Monthly-rated employee (12 x Monthly basic rate of pay) / (52 x 44)
Daily-rated employee Daily pay at the basic rate / Working hours per day
Piece-rated employee Total weekly pay at the basic rate of pay / Total number of hours worked in the week

The overtime rate payable for non-workmen is capped at the salary level of $2,600, or an hourly rate of $13.60.

    For Example:

    A non-workman earns $2,600 a month and works 2 hours of overtime. The overtime pay is: $13.60 × 1.5 × 2 hours = $40.80

  • What Is the Maximum Hours of Overtime in Singapore?

An employee can only work up to 72 overtime hours in a month.

Employers can apply for an exemption if they require employees to work more than the 72 hours of overtime in a month.

Note: These work activities will not be granted exemption.

  • What Is the OT Calculation for Rest Day or Public Holiday in Singapore?

Work on rest day or public holidays is not counted in the 72-hour overtime limit, except for work done beyond the usual daily working hours on those days. Such extra hours are included in the 72-hour limit.

For employees who only work 5 days per work (i.e. Monday – Friday), Saturday is usually considered as a non-working day and any hours worked on Saturday is usually captured as Overtime by default.

The payment for work done on rest day or public holiday involving overtime is calculated as follows:

    • (Rest day or public holiday pay) + (Hourly basic rate of pay × 1.5 × Number of hours worked overtime)

      Where

      • Pay for working more than half your normal daily working hours = (12 x monthly basic rate of pay)/(52 x average number of days an employee is required to work in a week) x 2
      • Pay for working up to half your normal daily working hours = (12 x monthly basic rate of pay)/(52 x average number of days an employee is required to work in a week) x 1
